G7 Impact
Ahead of the French Presidencuy of the 2026 G7, U7+ has been recognized as the official G7 engagement group representing higher education in G7 countries and beyond. The Presidents of U7+ member universities will meet in Paris on April 14–15, 2026, for the annual U7+ Presidential Summit, labeled as an official G7 event.
As an official Engagement Group, the U7+ Alliance carries a collective voice and works to strengthen the role of universities in global cooperation, evidence-based policymaking, and the preparation of future generations.
The U7+ Alliance is determined to have impact on the multilateral agenda through a Communiqué delivered every year to the G7 host government, echoing their priorities and the main challenges for universities worldwide.
The U7+ Communiqué underscores the need to strengthen the higher education sector by ensuring equitable access to quality education.

The Alliance reaffirmed its commitment to fostering peace and security through education, research, and public engagement. Recognizing rising global threats, including armed conflicts, nuclear risks, and violence against marginalized groups, the Alliance emphasizes the need for innovative approaches to peacebuilding.

Committed to academic freedom, sustainability, and innovation, the U7+ Alliance advocates in the Communiqué to the G7 for climate action, responsible AI, and equitable education. It seeks G7 recognition to support global policy through research and action.
2022 Communiqué for climate action, responsible AI, equitable education and G7 recognition
U7+ Alliance universities produced a Communiqué on Climate Change and Sustainability. The statement sets forth a set of specific commitments to lowering greenhouse gas emissions and offering enhanced access to climate education for students, while also acknowledging the disproportionate impact that climate change is having on vulnerable communities as well as the need to better engage youth.

The U7+ Alliance decided in its Communiuqé on the Importance of Intergenerational Justice to prioritize intergenerational justice by working together and with government leaders worldwide to create new opportunities for mutual understanding and equitable resource sharing across generations.

The first U7+ Alliance Presidential Summit concluded with a series of Core Principles to help define the main mission of the Alliance and its range of action. It was notably stated that the “U7+ brings together universities from G7 countries and beyond, who are committed to academic freedom and scholarly values and convinced of the key role of universities as global actors, to engage in discussions leading to concrete action to address pressing global challenges.”
